If you prefer hiking, you’ll find several trails in and around town. The Chapman DeMary Trail provides access to the last remaining old-growth forest in Purcellville and is used as an outdoor learning environment for local students. The mile-long trail includes pollination stations created and maintained by middle school students.

On the western edge of the city, Franklin Park offers a 5.5-mile walking and horseback riding trail. The park also has a swimming pool, sports facilities, playground and pond where visitors can enjoy catch-and-release fishing.

Travel north 13 miles to enjoy the excellent hiking trails at Sweet Run State Park. Loudoun County’s first state park (and the newest in Virginia) was opened in October 2023. It is also a great place for horseback riding, bird watching, outdoor recreation for children, and other outdoor activities.

Fireman’s Field Stadium

Head to Fireman’s Field for baseball games when the Purcellville Cannons are in town. The 13-acre “Field of Dreams” is home to the Valley League baseball team. Other teams, from little league to college level, also play here.

Roller skating

Next to the field is one of the best children’s activities in Purcellville, especially on rainy days. The historic Busch Tabernacle is a hexagonal structure that was built to hold religious gatherings. Today, this building is a roller skating rink with a beautiful wooden floor. Visit during an open skate or rent the place to celebrate a birthday or other holiday.

There are no hotels in Purcellville, but you will find many unique vacation rentals in Virginia Wine Country. For example, we enjoyed our stay at the Windswept Inn Cottage on nearby Round Hill.

Today, visitors can dine in a former mill, sample award-winning spirits in a car dealership turned distillery, and go roller skating in an 8-sided tabernacle. Purcellville is a great place for a family vacation, but there is also plenty of fun for kids and families.

From barbecue and burgers to fine dining, Purcellville has a meal for every mood. You can’t beat the brisket, ribs, and pork at Monk’s BBQ. They have a large selection of craft beers, a huge list of whiskeys, and a relaxed interior and terrace perfect for relaxing.

Burgers at Market Burger are locally sourced and can be customized with standard toppings and some unusual options. Make your burger extra local by adding Georges Mill Farm goat cheese from nearby Lovettsville.

For an upscale but never stuffy experience, head to Magnolia’s at the Mill. This Purcellville favorite serves lunch and dinner in a historic building right in the center of town. In addition, Magnolias source much of their food locally, and they offer a large selection of delicious Virginia wines.
