Planning Commission

Every local government in Virginia is required to have a Planning Commission “in order to promote the orderly development of the locality and its environs” (Code of Virginia, Section 15.2-2210).  The Purcellville Planning Commission is a seven-member body of Town residents that are appointed by the Town Council to advise them on matters relating to Town planning and development, as well as to review and act upon applications for new subdivisions and site plans for new development within the Town and, in the case of subdivisions, within the Joint Land Management Area surrounding the Town.  The Commission also develops and recommends updates of the Town’s Comprehensive Plan, which outlines the Town’s vision for its future and strategies for attaining that future.   Recommendations for updates to the Town’s zoning and development related regulations that help to implement the Comprehensive Plan are also the responsibility of the Planning Commission.  The Commission meets in regular session on the first and third Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM.
