On April 29, 2008, the Town of Purcellville and the Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC) hosted an Economic Development Forum at the Carver Center. The Forum was moderated by EDAC Chair, Troy Heskett, and included presentations by Carmen Romero, Director, Edgemoor Real Estate Services; Larry Rosenstrauch, Director, Loudoun County Department of Economic Development; and Town of Purcellville Council member Greg Wagner. The speakers highlighted various interests and viewpoints from key perspectives on economic development including public-private partnerships, downtown revitalization, commercial expansion and redevelopment, regional issues and local programs. Business leaders, Town officials, residents and other stakeholders were in attendance and provided feedback through roundtable discussions on issues such as the Town's marketable attributes, strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats, and ways to assist businesses. EDAC is continuing to gather input about the Forum and will be posting its findings on this website. Loudoun County, Virginia- The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to be wary of telephone calls and e-mails about the economic stimulus package. The Loudoun Sheriff’s Office has learned that some county residents have received an e-mail claiming to be from the IRS. The e-mail states that you are qualified to receive the 2008 Economic Stimulus Refund. It then asks you to click on a link to fill out a form, apparently for direct deposit into the scammers bank account. There are no reports of victims of this scam in Loudoun County. The e-mail, according to the IRS, appears to be an identity theft scheme to obtain recipients’ personal and financial information so the scammers can clean out the victims’ financial accounts. The IRS states taxpayers do not have to fill out a separate form to get a stimulus payment or have it directly deposited. Remember the IRS will never call you to ask for your Social Security number or bank account information or an e-mail you to ask for Social Security or bank account information. If you believe you were a victim of this scam, you are asked to contact the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office at 703-777-1021 to report the incident.
